SUMMARY:Paid to research: how to prepare successful funding applications
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nOn the first day of the workshop\, participants a
 re helped to identify suitable funding sources\, to understand what evalua
 tors are looking for when assessing an application\, to think strategicall
 y about the formal and informal contacts that the applicant might entertai
 n with the funding body in question and\, finally\, to prepare the structu
 re underpinning the actual writing of their application. On the second day
  of the workshop\, participants meet the trainer through a series of one-t
 o-one meetings. Within this context\, they have the opportunity to discuss
  their specific situation\, eventual challenges they are facing and possib
 le ways forward to prepare successful applications through a dedicated tai
 lor-made approach.\nObjectives:\n\nThis seminar supports participants in l
 earning how to adequately prepare their own successful applications for sc
 holarships\, travel grants and research funding (both in Germany and beyon
 d).\nContents in brief:\n- Identifying the most suitable funding bodies.\n
 - Understanding what evaluators are looking for in an application.\n- Keep
 ing in touch with the funding body (do’s and don’ts).\n- Exploring how
  to enhance one’s own image to “stick out from the rest”\n- Structur
 ing the writing of the funding application itself.\nMethodology:\n- Backgr
 ound theoretical information to bring everybody up to speed\n- Practical e
 xercises to learn how to prepare a funding application\n- Plenum discussio
 n to share best practice within the group\n- Working together with a partn
