In June 2015 participants of the 2nd International Freiberg Conference on Electrochemical Storage Materials discussed the current progress in electrochemical storage together with international experts from science and industry. Important questions, such as “What are the megatrends expected in the coming years?”, “What materials possess low supply risks?”, “To what extent can recycling contribute here?”, “How can appropriate materials be assessed?”, “Which concepts provide high potential as post-lithium systems?”, “What are major constraints for new concepts?”, and “What methods can evaluate and recognize the challenges of electrochemical storage?”, were dissected.
During the two days the entanglement of resources, battery concepts, battery life, and recycling was particularly demonstrated. Consequently, the consideration of the whole value chain was shown to be exceptionally relevant to the development of future high-potential concepts for industry and society. International experts from countries such as Japan, Russia, UK, France, Belgium, and Denmark came therefore to Freiberg.
We would like to thank all speakers and participants as well as all supporters of the 2nd International Freiberg Conference on Electrochemical Storage Materials for sharing their profound knowledge and thus contributing to an exciting and fruitful event. You all made this inspiring platform for electrochemical storage materials a great success. To help you keep the conference in memory we have made selected pictures available, including the conference evening in the magnificent terra mineralia.
We look forward to the next ESTORM conference, which is planned for June 2017.
Yours sincerely,
Tilmann Leisegang, and the local organizing committee
