Amazon Basin
The project partners selected thirteen locations in the central and southern Amazon basin (State of Amazonas) for the study. These locations provide access to forest and post-forest land cover (subsequent land use), representative for the more developed parts of the Amazon basin.
Composite soil samples have been taken from thirteen locations, representing the local land cover with a bias towards secondary forest and post-forest land use. Each location includes secondary forest, forest edge and a variety of modified land-cover types following deforestation (agriculture, agroforestry, pastureland). Care has been taken to include the relevant geological (lithological) units and typical soil types. Other eco-environmental information, including weather conditions are being logged on site, wherever possible.
