Apply Now: KlarText-Preis for Science Communication

The KlarText-Prize for Science Communication recognises PhD graduates who can explain their research clearly and precisely without using jargon. Awarded by the Klaus Tschira Foundation, the prize recognises outstanding examples of successful science communication.

The focus is on communicating complex research results in a way that is understandable beyond one’s own academic community.

What does it involve?

Participants present their dissertation in a way that is accessible to a general audience. The goal is to explain:

  • which problem was investigated;
  • why the topic is relevant,
  • How can the research results be interpreted?

Two formats are available:

  • a Klartext article or
  • An infographic that visually explains the content.

Both formats are intended for a general audience with an interest in science.

Who is eligible?

Applications are open to researchers who:

  • completed their PhD in 2024 or 2025;
  • conducted research in one of the following fields: Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Neurosciences, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics (including related disciplines).

Applications must be submitted in German. Nationality, institution or current career stage are irrelevant.

Application deadline: 28 February 2026
