FAQ

Manuscript submission:

Question: “What is the policy/deadline for submitting manuscripts to the conference special issue of pssa?”

Answer: We are permanently getting questions from you about the deadline for manuscript submission for the special issue of Physica Status Solidi A. Below, the compilation principle of the GADEST 2024 special issue is presented, which will hopefully clarify the “deadline” topic.

Starting from the first event in 1985, the proceedings of the GADEST conference were prepared before the meeting and distributed to the participants during registration at the conference site. In 2016, the Executive Committee of GADEST decided the manuscripts should be published in a high-quality, refereed journal with peer reviewers and a full editorial process. Physica Status Solidi was chosen as a publishing partner of the conference, and we have maintained this fruitful cooperation from that time. The electronic version of the GADEST 2024 PSSA special issue will also be ready for the start of this conference. Two months are necessary to prepare the electronic version of the special issue after finishing the editorial process (i.e. reviewing by several peer referees, the related corrections, and the final positive editorial decision). This causes time limitations for manuscript submission.

Two conditions must be satisfied for the manuscript to be included in the GADEST 2024 special issue:

1. The presentation related to the manuscript should be included in the program of the GADEST 2024 conference. The evaluation of the submissions to the conference has already finished, and all successful participants have received their invitations to present  their invited, oral, or poster presentations.

2. The PSSA editorial process for the submitted manuscript should be completed by 30 June 2024, with the final positive decision.

Given the above, the submission deadline for the special issue is set to April 20, 2024. The sooner you submit, the more are chances for your manuscript to be included in the GADEST 2024 special issue. Only the manuscripts that satisfy the above two conditions will be included in the GADEST 2024 special issue. Moreover, the manuscripts accepted by PSSA editors after June 30th will be published in the regular PSSA issue (but not in the special GADEST 2024 issue).

Abstract submission:

Question: “I’m wondering if the submission of more than one paper have still with the same registration fees as previous? Or should i pay for each one separately?”

Answer: Every conference participant (present at the conference site) contributes a single participant fee, independently from the number of contributions in which he/she is an author/co-author.

Question: “I am about to write 2 journal articles next week, for physica status solidi. Upon abstract submission, I expected a question, if I want to submit a journal publication, but there was none. I am not sure what this means, therefore: In case I am too late for submitting publications (I wonder if the prerequisite is that abstracts must be submitted by Feb 15th), please let me know.”

Answer: The abstract submission deadline was extended so your abstracts will be considered under the standard procedure. Regarding your question, you can submit the manuscripts for the special issue of PSSA according to the procedure described on the page:

https://blogs.hrz.tu-freiberg.de/gadest2024/publication/

At present, the deadline for the manuscript submission is until 20 April 2024. However, with high probability, it may be extended for a couple of weeks later.

Question: “I can see that the deadline for the abstracts has been extended. Our abstract is ready but the paper is not ready. From answer I did not quite understand if it will be still possible to have our manuscript included in the PSS special issue of the GADEST even if we submit the paper later than 1/3/2024.”

Answer:  We expect that the deadline for the manuscript submission also will be extended for 2-3 weeks; However, this is not under our control and is defined by PSSA Editors. According to our information they will announce extension of the deadline closer to 01 March.

Question: “Upon reviewing my submission, I realized that the main file of my abstract needs to be updated due to one minor correction. I am writing to inquire about possibly replacing the current file with a revised version through the submission website or if there is an alternative method to update the file directly? I also attached an updated file of the abstract in this mail.”

Answer: If we see in the referee review, that this error was critical, we will send the reviewers the updated version. So, at the moment, you do not have to do anything, let’s wait for the referees’ decisions. Surely, if your abstract is accepted, we will use the updated version of your abstract for the booklet of abstracts.

Question: “I’m wondering if there is any fund or support for international visitors or PhD students who are working in our group. Please let us know if there is any possibility of getting financial support to participate and present our work.”

Answer: At the moment we do not have any possibility to support your participation in the conference. However, submit an abstract, and if the International Program Committee of the conference will highly value it, we will try to find a possibility to support your participation. Please indicate your problem when submitting the abstract.

Question: “when it is expected that conference abstract materials will be issued either online or printed version. We are working on a related patent therefore we need this information.”

Answer: A booklet with abstracts is usually distributed during the registration of the participants at the conference site. An electronic version of the booklet will also appear online on the conference website not earlier than one month before the start of the conference (as soon as the program is finalized); That means that the earliest is 08 August 2024.”
