The German Thesis Award, presented by the Körber Foundation, honours the best doctoral graduates in Germany from all disciplines each year. The award focuses on the broader social relevance of a particular piece of research. Applications must be submitted in German.

The KlarText-Prize for Science Communication recognises PhD graduates who can explain their research clearly and precisely without using jargon. Awarded by the Klaus Tschira Foundation, the prize recognises outstanding examples of successful science communication.
The focus is on communicating complex research results in a way that is understandable beyond one’s own academic community.

04. December 2025 – Dagmar Ganz
Expertise, scientific curiosity and personal perseverance – these qualities were demonstrated by the 74 doctoral graduates and 5 postdoctoral lecturers who were honoured at the farewell ceremony held on 8 November 2025 in the Alte Mensa of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

The YEMAYA Women in Science Project represents an innovative program aimed at empowering women in STEM disciplines and advancing sustainable development in the rural regions in Sub-Saharan Africa affected by unsustainable mining. Launched in 2019, this initiative highlights a collaborative effort among five universities across Africa: the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN); Machakos University, Kenya (MU); Taita Taveta University, Kenya (TTU); University of Mines and Technology, Ghana (UMaT); and University of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ghana (UESD), in conjunction with the TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF) in Germany. The PhD School is beginner level; no previous knowledge and experience on the topic of SLO is needed. The students are also exempt from paying any participation fees.
