Application until June, 30: New Master’s Programme Mathematics for Data and Resources Sciences

The English-language degree programme leads to a Master of Science degree in four semesters and is aimed at graduates of an undergraduate degree programme. The application deadline has now been extended until 30th June 2022.

„Whether climate change, risks from extreme weather, scarcity of resources or circular economy – the major challenges of the future are already generating large amounts of data that must be read, modelled and interpreted correctly,“ says Prof. Marcus Waurick, mathematics professor at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. „To grasp future issues around (geo) data and resources, we need professionals who understand and can apply mathematical models,“ the Dean of Studies continues.

Maths for Big Data and Geo Data

This is where the new international Master’s programme Mathematics for Data and Resources Sciences comes in. „Students can specialise in the two application areas of Big Data and Machine Learning or Geodata and Geomathematics or focus on mathematical research,“ explains Prof. Marcus Waurick. For this purpose, mathematical problems from the application are discussed in lecture series specially created for the degree programme. During the third semester, students can begin their Master’s thesis enabling them to complete it by the end of the fourth semester.

Versatile professional opportunities for graduates

„Since the understanding of big data is essential in almost every industry, future graduates have the best job prospects in an international environment. In Saxony and Germany, too, there are versatile employment opportunities in IT, the automotive or finance industries, as well as in management consulting,“ promises Dean of Studies Prof. Marcus Waurick. Students who complete an internship of at least four months in industry and business can have this credited towards their Master’s thesis.
