Additive Manufacturing of bio-based residue materials
Bio-based residues appear at many different industrial processes without being utilized so far. They offer a huge potential as a basis for sustainable materials which can substitute fossil-based products. In our joint project with the Kenyan Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), we are investigating the utilization of agricultural wastes in additive manufacturing technologies with the goal to fight plastic pollution in Africa.
This Colloquium will include a talk session on the latest research results for utilization of bio-based residues as AM materials, addressing the technologies Binder Jetting, Liquid Deposition Modelling and Fused Filament Fabrication among others.
After a joint lunch break and visits to the Additive Manufacturing laboratories at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, a workshop on finding the right applications for bio-based AM will be held in the afternoon. During this workshop, participants will try to identify application areas for both the African und European market and plan the steps for a prototype.
