“Martin K. Mensah is my name, a Ghanaian national and a PhD. student at Faculty of Geosciences, Geoengineering and Mining at TU BAF. My speciality is in Environmental conservation and food security. I am the founder of ‘‘The International Centre for Sustainable Environment Promotion’’ a not-for-profit organisation in Ghana. For the past decade, I have been a compassionate advocate and a volunteer for the sustainable development agenda. As someone who has spent most of my life in rural and peri-urban areas, I have come to realize, understand, and appreciate varied developmental challenges confronting my people. As a practising Agro-Environmental Scientist, I am using my expertise to help restore degraded mined lands for agriculture whilst adding value to farm produce in Ghana. I call this drive ‘‘Operation Restore-Protect-Produce and Sustain’’. This project helps in biodiversity conservation, feed Ghanaians whilst restoring rural livelihood sources. My satisfaction resides in the many hopes and benefits this project seeks to give rural mining communities in Ghana. Thanks to our high spirited volunteers and partners joining forces to make this integrated community developments concept a reality. I happily endorse GraFa’s EMPOWER program for all well-meaning PhD. students at TU BAF, who have interests to do something beyond their main-stream research.
