ENGLISH: An online discussion event on Thursday, 01 September 2022, at 2 pm will discuss the topic „The war in Ukraine from an African perspective“.
While the majority of UN member states voted in favour of the resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine, African countries were split in their vote.
Of the 35 countries that abstained, 17 (48.6%) were African, including Algeria, Angola, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa, while Ghana voted in the majority in favour of the
Ukraine.
With the help of our African friends, we want to think outside the box and discuss the following questions:
What do people think about the war?
What is the media in the African countries reporting about it?
What are the positions of the governments?
What is the impact of the war in Ghana, Namibia and South Africa?
List of speakers:
Wayne Alexander, Friedrich Naumann Foundation, from Germany
Janine Fortuin, activist, artist, social worker from South Africa
Dr. Affram Kwaku Boahene, development consultant from Ghana
Prof. Joseph Diescho, writer and political scientist from Namibia
Each speaker will have a speech of about 15 minutes. This will be followed by a discussion with the audience.
Moderation: Sabina von Kessel, Mittelhof Gessin e.V.
The event will be conducted via the online conference system Zoom and in English.
Please send an email to to register. You will then receive the link to participate in Zoom by e-mail.
