Career prospects

Processing machines are used in many areas of life, far beyond the processing of mineral raw materials. For example, there are many applications in the chemical and food industry, in agriculture, and the recycling sector.

Mechanical engineering graduates who have specialized in mineral processing machines await exciting career prospects, both on the part of machine manufacturers as well as their operators, e.g. in engineering offices and service providers.

Here you can find first-hand opinions (in German) on studying at the Institute of Mineral Processing Machines (IAM).

Saskia Kuner earned her master’s degree from our institute at the end of 2014. She now develops giant rolling mills in the German engineering company Gebr. Pfeiffer in Kaiserslautern.

Portrait Saskia Kuner IAM TU Freiberg“I studied at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg from 2009 to 2014, and graduated with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in December 2014. For my major I chose “mineral processing machines”, and I also work in this field today. Due to the many contacts of the Institute of Mineral Processing Machines (IAM) with companies from the industry, it was possible for me to begin my career straight after finishing my master thesis. At the Gebrüder Pfeiffer SE in Kaiserslautern, which, i.a., produces vertical rolling mills for the cement, lime, and gypsum sectors, I have been working in the process engineering department since January 2015.

I can recommend studying at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg for many reasons: Due to the small size of the university, the environment on-site is very familiar. Not only do you know your fellow students very well; furthermore, you can easily get in touch with students of higher semesters, who can then pass their experiences on to you. In addition, a close contact with the professors and research staff of the IAM is also possible, which regularly comes in very handy regarding internships, or projects. The imparted lecture contents taught in the different courses offered by the IAM are all very practice-oriented, and for me have laid the perfect foundation for starting my career.”
