Nominate your candidate for the 2018 Millennium Technology Prize

Dear member of the science and innovation community,

Finland’s Millennium Technology Prize is one of the largest science and innovation prizes in the world. The one million euro Prize is awarded every second year by Technology Academy Finland for disruptive technological innovations that help solve the great challenges of humankind.

The past winners of the Millennium Technology Prize represent a wide spectrum of science and innovation ranging from medical technology and biotechnology to sustainable energy and information technology. They are all leading scientists and innovators in their fields at the peak of their careers. The most recent Prize was awarded in 2016 to Frances Arnold for her innovation of directed evolution. The technology is now widely used in the production of fuels, paper products, pharmaceuticals, textiles and agricultural chemicals.

It is again time to acknowledge great achievements in science and innovation and consider which individual or research group would be worthy of receiving the next Millennium Technology Prize. The nomination period for the 2018 Millennium Technology Prize opens today, April 3, and will close on July 31, 2017.

Nominations can be made by universities, research institutes, academies and companies around the world. The Prize is open to citizens of all nationalities and all fields of technology, except for military technology. A winning innovation must have a proven track record of practical applications and potential to accelerate further research.

Technology Academy Finland encourages you to think about your network – could the next Millennium Technology Prize winner be someone whom you know?

If you think so, nominate your candidate at www.millenniumprize.fi/cfn by July 31 at the latest. You may well be celebrating with the winner at the Prize ceremony in Finland on May 22 next year!

Full nomination criteria and documents are available at our website www.millenniumprize.fi, where also the past winners are presented.
