On Friday, 24 May 2019, a group of 5 students from the Institute for Mineral Processing Machines attended the 8th fellows meet-up of the AMUND Fördertechnik GmbH in Rheinberg. In addition to the current scholarship holders of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, an alumni of the TU Berlin as well as further scholars of the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences – under the direction of Prof. Detlev Borstell – took part in the meeting.

Students of the IAM attend trade fair BAUMA 2019 in Munich

5.00 am in the morning: departure from Freiberg…

Logo of the trade fair Bauma 2019At 5.00 am in the morning (it felt like shortly after midnight…), our bus was ready to go. Sponsored by the Association of Friends and Supporters of the Institute for Mineral Processing Machines, it brought a selected group of students – specializing in the fields of Mineral Processing Machines, Mining and Special Civil Engineering Machines, as well as other disciplines at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg – safely through all traffic jams in the Munich area and, with only a slight delay, eventually reached its destination: the exhibition grounds of the BAUMA 2019, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material and mining machines, construction vehicles and equipment.

In her PhD thesis on the “Contribution to the quantitative rock characterization for the evaluation of rocks regarding their strenghts”, Mrs. Schreiber has focused on the effects of various structural rock properties – such as their modal, structural and textural characteristics – on their strenghts.

Especially for the modelling of the comminution behavior of solid rocks, a better understanding of the impact of such structural characteristics on frequently used strength parameters such as the uniaxial compressive strength or the shear strength is imperative. Our bulk material boxes may have been set up just recently in our pilot plant in the quarry – part of the IAM laboratories – but the next expansion is already in progress! While the preparations for our large series of investigations within the framework of the current AFK joint project are still in full swing, today two new purification machines from the HAVER ENGINEERING GmbH were delivered on site.
