On November 12th, the Webinar of the Greeny project (funded by EIT Raw Materials), “Key insights on Slag valorizing”, took place. This event covered a wide range of topics on mechanical processing related to the recycling of metallurgical slags, from the characterisation stages to steps involving the comminution, such as micro-macro modelling of crushing and milling or high recovery by physical separation. The broad spectrum of participating project partners from the raw materials sector (ERAMET Ideas), mechanical and plant engineering (Metso-Outotec) as well as from international research institutions and universities (Teknologist tutkimuskeskus VTT (Finland), TU Luleå (Sweden), TU Bergakademie Freiberg) does not only guarantee the networking and scientific depth of the investigations and rapid dissemination of the knowledge gained, but also their rapid economic use. The project brings advantages for the sustainable recycling of the Mn slag that was examined directly, but also for the recycling of many other brittle secondary and primary raw materials.

More than 80 people from more than 14 countries attended the event. Their interest was mainly in the slag valorisation process and questions focused on the comminution processes, but also on validation of comminution models, mechanical characterisation and quantitative analysis techniques. In a final poll, they evaluated the presentations very positively. Questions were directly answered during the webinar. There was an outstanding participation of women in the event, reaching more than 25%, which was only surpassed by the panelists participation with more than 50% female presenters.
Due to the very positive response and the high reach, the project partners have already decided to hold another webinar in 2021, at which the final results of the project will be presented.
