The several week long study visit of Sarah Schulz has come to an end. Starting on 11 June 2018, the mechanical engineering student from the Ohio State University has been working on a variety of research topics at the Institute of Mineral Processing Machines (IAM). Among other things, she has determined the rebound resilience of different glass spheres using high-speed recordings, and has taken part in a student internship at our pilot plant in a nearby quarry.

Shortly before completing her stay at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Sarah reflects on her time at our institute as follows:

“My internship at the IAM has been an invaluable experience. Throughout my time in Freiberg, I have been fortunate enough to work in both an exciting and challenging environment. I have been given the opportunity to not only develop technical skills, by applying concepts I have studied at university, but I have been able to develop soft skills as well.

As I am from the United States, my time here has opened my eyes to the existence of career opportunities abroad and to the professionalism and dedication with which research is performed in Germany. This summer has been a transformative experience and one that I could not be more thankful for.”

The IAM can only echo Sarah’s sentiment, as her contributions have been very insightful and a valuable enrichment to us throughout! We wish Sarah all the best for her future career path, and are already looking forward to welcoming new DAAD- and IAESTE-trainees very soon!
