Michael Klichowicz of the Institute of Mineral Processing Machines (IAM) today presented his research results for the validation of Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations in front of approx. 200 experts at the International Comminution Symposium 2018 in Cape Town.

In his paper entitled “Validating DEM simulations using high-speed videos of crack propagation in granite”, he has demonstrated and analyzed impressive high-speed recordings of crack propagation in a thin granite slab.

The results are intended to advance the research at the IAM into the calibration of DEM models for the comminution of mineral structures.
