DocSumCube is the 3rd edition of the Circular Economy Summer School, coordinated by KU Leuven, with partners from Ghent University, Universite de Liege, RWTH Aachen University and Swerea IVF. During the summer school, those successful doctoral students coming from a range of disciplines come together in a rural part of Belgium in the summer months to learn about innovation and entrepreneurship, business modeling, pitching and circular economy of materials. This is underpinned by a real industrial challenge coming from companies in our network. The selected doctoral students are clustered into team and each day, are required to use the knowledge gained from the daily lectures and discussions to develop a solution to the industrial challenge. At the culmination of the summer shcool, all student teams pitch their solutions to a jury of business representatives and investors. In December 2017, as a result of the call – Copernicus Building Skills Actions – from the European Commission/DG GROW, EIT RawMaterials was awarded a three-year action, the RawMatCop Programme 2018-2020 programme. The RawMatCop 2018-2020 programme will build on the results and experiences from the one-year RawMatCop 2017 programme, also awarded by DG GROW and carried out by EIT RawMaterials and post-doctoral researchers hosted by KIC partners over 12 months in 2017-2018.
The aim of the RawMatCop 2018-2020 Programme is to develop skills, expertise, demonstrations and applications at the intersection between Earth observation data, specifically Copernicus data, and the raw materials sector. Moreover, the RawMatCop 2018-2020 Programme will share its results and encourage knowledge transfer and skills dissemination both with the partners of EIT RawMaterials but also with other sectors and KICs.
