Welcome to our project: “Erzgebirge – new landscape, new opportunities”

Energy turnaround, fossil-fuel phase-out, generation of renewable electricity – what does all this have to do with my region? To answer this question, the cross-border, further education project “Ore Mountains – new landscape, new opportunities” has been initiated. It is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE) until August 2020.

Our goals:

We want you to get interested in the topics of environment and energy!

Very important in that regard:

Process engineering!

Carbon Discovery Trail – now as online version!

The Carbon Discovery Trail is now available online as a digital trip!

Get to know the information boards about the universal element carbon simply from home and learn how to reduce CO2 emissions, produce “green” fuels and extract new products from waste.

Would you like to see the large-scale test facilities in which the new technologies are researched? Then visit us on the institute’s premises – daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Pupils’ university – new date!

The Pupils’ university, originally planned from 10th to 14th August 2020, unfortunately has to be canceled due to the current situation.

But don’t worry – we already have a new and customized date for you!

During the Saxon autumn holidays, in the period from October 19 to 30, 2020, we invite all prospective students from grade 10 to get to know our university, various courses and the city of Freiberg.

Let yourself be infected by the enthusiasm of our scientists and students for their specialist area in specially designed lectures, experiments, laboratory tours, excursions or competitions. In addition, you can of course explore the city of Freiberg as a place to study and live and make initial contacts with the university and its members.

Click here for the program and for registration.

We look forward to seeing you!

Carbon Discovery Trail officially opened!

The time has come – the Carbon Discovery Trail has opened!

The “Carbon Knowledge Journey” was ceremoniously unveiled by Prof. Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht, District Administrator Matthias Damm, Mayor Sven Krüger and Prof. Bernd Meyer.

We are pleased that so many interested parties accepted the invitation to yesterday’s opening despite all the current conditions and bad weather forecasts. We had a wonderful event with the best company and sunshine. Maybe you followed it on the live stream?

We look forward to many curious visitors, young and old!

Opening Carbon Discovery Trail – June 18. 2020

What do smartphones, T-shirts and pencils have in common? They contain carbon!

The newly created Carbon Discovery Trail on our institute grounds explains this unique element and illustrates its influence on our life, our prosperity and the environment.

With the help of interactive boards, the tour around the IEC also shows how “green” fuels can be produced in the future or new products can be obtained from waste, and at the same time presents the large-scale test facilities in which the new technologies are researched.

At the opening with a festive unveiling on June 18, 2020 (10:00 a.m.) you have the opportunity to be part of the live stream. The trail is then open to all guests from 1:00 p.m. and can be visited daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

How much does it cost? – Nothing. Just drop by!

Online campus day 2020 – review

On May 16 for the first online campus day, over 400 participants followed the virtual course presentations and asked their questions in the WEB consultation hour with the study advisors. One of the highlights was the virtual campus tour. The diverse offers of the individual departments were very well received and used with enthusiasm. For that we would like to thank all visitors.

We look forward to meeting some of you personally in Freiberg and at the institute soon!
