Using the last day of the year of training 2017/18, the teachers of the apprentices of electricians and mechanics from the BSZ Julius Weisbach surprised their students with a day at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The trip led to the institute of process engineering and chemical engineering (IEC).
Finally some living technology and real perspectives for future work environments.
After an interesting and interactive lecture about energy carriers through the ages the students were informed about ongoing challenges in times of regenerative power generation.
How can peaks of power generation be avoided or efficiently stored for usage? What about problems of carbon fibers? How can toxic and dangerous materials be transformed into useful and flexible energy carriers, thinking of synthesis gas? How can we close carbon cycles to fabricate high-grade products from feedstock, that is waste up to now (upcycling)?
The students of the training school Julius Weisbach from Freiberg were very interested and happy about the following technical tour through the pilot plants on the institute site on the Reiche Zeche. Led by some mechanical and electrical staff of the IEC, many interesting questions were asked and the guides had a chat with the possible ongoing employees.
We are thankful for the interactive collaboration with the training school Julius Weisbach. The project is supported by the European Fund of regional development (EFRE) in the framework of the educational project ERZ2020.
