Project days June 11-13

Buzz overload at IEC: pupils from a middleschool in Most (CZ) and from the “Lößnitzgymnasium” in Radebeul (D) were here for the project days at our institute. Those project days are part of the Erz2020 project as a special offer funded by the European Regional Developement Fund (EMCF). The pupils got deep insights in the plants and the engineering behind it.

Our colleagues presented the HP-POX and FlexiSlag while having the rare opportunity of enjoying the best view of the city on top of the plants. But the pupils were most impressed by the possibilities of closing the Carbon-Cycle instead of only burning our valuable recources.

After a small lunch-break with traditional Bratwurst some students from the faculty for chemistry and physics made some extraordinary Experiments, as you can see right down below:

In a nutshell we can say, that those project days were a complete succcess!  Especially for all the pupils who had the best chance to get to know everything about their possible future studies, the big plants and work behind the studies itself and of course the joint experiences between the german and the czech pupils.

Recap CampusTag

While having a very sunny day, the CampusTag on saturday was a big success. Right after the Rector’s greeting words, our colleague Stefan Thiel continued with his speech about “Engineering 4.0 – Challenges of the future”, in which he took a closer look on the difficulties and chances of tomorrow’s engineers… and of course how you get prepared for that with studies at our University.

Afterwards we held a lot of informations ready at our Information Point. On the one hand about the courses of study for future process engineers, and on the other hand about our international Project “Erz2020“. In combination with this Project we offer seminars, field trips, individual prepared project days and give possibilities for knowledge exchange between students and employees.

The most popular highlight were again our Segways. Regardless of age, everyone had a lot of fun on our little parcours.

If you have missed out on the CampusTag, you can visit us at the “Reiche Zeche”, Fuchsmühlenweg 9 on June 22 in combination with the “Night of Science and Economy“. You’ll have again the chance to get some informations about our Institute and of course to try the Segways!

Save the Date – CampusTag!

Get an insight into the University life!

You’re on the journey through different opportunities for studying? At the CampusTag (open house) at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg you have the possibility to experience the University first-hand. The Information Points in the TMV-hall can inform you about everything you need to know if you want to study at the TUBAF.

At the same time you can get an in-depth overview of our institute’s scientific work. And if you need a short break from all the information about university, you can take a Segway for a little ride.

Following Highlights are awaiting you:

  • Keynote speech about “Engineering 4.0 – Challenges of the Future” (german)
  • Energyquiz – proof your knowledge of recent topics
  • Erz2020 – presentation of the continuing education project for improvement of the german-czech relations and the related offers
  • e-mobility you can feel: Segway-Course

Girls´Day 2019

Within the annual, nationwide “Girls’and Boys’Day”, on 28.03.2019, there was the opportunity for the Czech and German students to learn more about the exciting job of a process engineer and to get in touch with practice at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg (here at the IEC) .

Tradionally, girls show greater inhibitions than the boys to get in touch with big vessels and techniques but our group showed a strong technical interest and had a lot of fun during our tour.

german and czech students are talking with plant staff in front of a technical vessel

Thank you for joining our activity – it was a great day.

Girls’Day 28.03.2019!

Engineer 4.0 – Why leave the field to the men?

Are you interested in technology and looking for challenges for your future? Then your path is clear!

Where elsewhere calculations are solely done stubbornly out of the textbook, you have the view for the bigger picture, think outside the box and get creative in the development of new solutions. The engineering profession is no longer a pure male domain – and that’s a good thing.

On Girls’ Day, we want to introduce you to the versatile world of process engineering: Which research topics are currently up to date, which occupational fields are available, how does the course of study look like and what comes after that? In addition to theoretical content and discussions with our female engineers at the institute, you can also lend a hand and carry out exciting experiments. For the grand finale, we’ve prepared something special for you – that’s pretty cool!
