23rd Day of Renewable Energies in Oederan: 28 April 2018!

Under the motto “knowledge is transfered best if practically applied”, operators of alternative energy plants open their doors on 28 April 2018. Interested visitors can get insights into the experiences with the current technology and its manifold possibilities. The focus is on solar thermal and photovoltaic systems, wind or hydroelectric power plants, biogas plants for heat and power generation, wood heating systems, models for rainwater and vegetable oil use, as well as solar architecture and improvements in energy efficiency. Further events, such as trade fairs or discussions, will also take place. This gives interested energy users an impression of the energy technology of the solar age. Save the date: 28 April 2018
Location: Marketplace in Oederan
Time: from 9 a.m. onwards
More information about the program and exhibitors can be found here (target page in German language).

The Institute of Energy Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering (IEC) will introduce itself!
We will offer stalls on the subject of energy quizzes, stirling engines, fluidized beds and Segways for the fun of electromobility. In addition, we will show you how much process technology can be found in a beer, and follow that up with a subsequent quality control of craft beer and rape bread.

You will find us in the Enge Gasse (at the church) in Oederan.

New field trips scheduled!

Our project partners in Most are currently organizing new field trips for pupils and students on the topic of environment and coal.

The energy sources in the countries’ energy mix play an important role in the Czech-Saxon region. The aim of the project is to familiarize pupils and students with this topic and to improve their knowledge in the field of environmental protection.

The following field trips are scheduled:

  • 19 June 2018: Field trip “Recultivated sites of the coal basin around Most” (according to field trip plan II)
  • 20 June 2018: Demonstration project “Environmental measures for the extraction and treatment of brown coal”
  • 26 June 2018: Field trip “Recultivated sites of the coal basin around Most” (according to field trip plan II)

Girls’ Day on 26 April 2018!

Logo Girls' Day

Engineer 4.0 – Why leave the field to the men?

Are you interested in technology and looking for challenges for your future? Then your path is clear!

Where elsewhere calculations are solely done stubbornly out of the textbook, you have the view for the bigger picture, think outside the box and get creative in the development of new solutions. The engineering profession is no longer a pure male domain – and that’s a good thing.

On Girls’ Day, we want to introduce you to the versatile world of process engineering: Which research topics are currently up to date, which occupational fields are available, how does the course of study look like and what comes after that? In addition to theoretical content and discussions with our female engineers at the institute, you can also lend a hand and carry out exciting experiments. For the grand finale, we’ve prepared something special for you – that’s pretty cool!

Click here for the day’s detailed program (in German language), arranged especially for you!

An unforgettable visit to the power plant “Boxberg”

On 19 January 2018, we embarked on a field trip to the power plant “Boxberg” in the Upper Lusatia.

Many thanks to the organizers as well as the operator for making our visit such a great experience.

The primary aim of this field trip was getting to know the current main way of utilization for brown coal – its conversion into electricity – in practice in one of the most modern power plants.

The participating students hitherto only had theoretical knowledge of the physical, chemical and thermodynamic basics of energy conversion in a power plant. Now they were able to witness their practical application first hand, admire the impressive facilities live on site, and take the opportunity to ask all their questions.
